Meniere's Disease
The cause of Meniere's is unknown but is believed to result
from fluctuating pressure of fluid within the inner ear. Perilymph
Fistula - A tear between the middle and inner ear which usually
occurs following a head injury or plane ride which results
in sudden pressure changes in the inner ear.
Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease
(AIED) Occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks its
self leaving inflammation and nerve damage to the inner ear.
Acoustic Neuroma
Is caused by the growth of a benign tumor, this condition
is rare.
Labyrinthitis
Generally occurs following a cold or a virus which resulted
in an infection leaving inflammation in the inner ear.
Ototoxicity
Poisoning to the inner ear from the use of certain prescription
or over the counter medications.
Mal de Debarquement
Is a rare vertigo condition which occurs following an ocean
cruise of other form of prolonged motion, such as a plane or
long car ride.
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
Occurs when tiny calcium carbonate crystals form within the
inner ear. This may result from a head injury but many times
the cause is unknown.
Perilymph Fistula
A tear or defect in one or both of the small, thin membranes
between the middle and inner ear, generally caused by a blow
to the head.
MAV = Migraine Associated Vertigo
Is another disorder that many people are now finding out is
the cause of their dizziness The migraines can be silent migraines
meaning you may not feel any pain. There are medications to
help treat Mav so if you have not yet been diagnosed this would
be something you may want to be tested for.
Silent Seizures
Silent seizures are just that, they are seizures without the
severe symptoms, many people have several silent seizures a
day and never even know they had one. While others can be having
them and end up with symptoms such as unexplained dizziness.
Allergies
If along with your dizziness you often feel feverish, tired
and feel as though your coming down with a cold or the flu
its possible that allergies either air born or food could be
causing your symptoms.
Otitis Media
An infection of the middle ear or the area behind the eardrum
is termed otitis media.
Mastoiditis
An infection of the middle ear that travels to the mastoid
bone of the skull. The mastoid bone fills with infected materials
and its honeycomb-like bone structure may deteriorate.
Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
Is often brought on by stress which leads you to grind your
teeth while your sleeping. Any type of head injury can also
cause damage to the jaw. TMJ can cause jaw pain, headaches,
ear pain, neck pain and dizziness
